The Electronic Academic Identity Service was launched in the academic year 2011-2012 and supports multiple benefits - privileges for all members of Greek higher education institutions (students of the three cycles of study, permanent, visiting and contract lecturers, administrative and technical staff), as well as members of research institutions (research, administrative and technical staff).

For the development of the service, the computing infrastructure of EDYTE SA was used, which in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports developed the central information system for the implementation of the single academic identity card in the form of a plastic or smart card.

The service contributes to the modernisation of the way academic and student care services are provided, by saving public resources by eliminating abusive benefits, by eliminating the need for annual re-issuance of student identity cards and other cards.
