Graduates of the Department of Digital Systems have the same established professional rights as graduates of other departments of Computer Science or Information Technology. In practice, this means that they can work in IT positions in companies and organisations in the private sector. In addition, through the IT degree they can be appointed to public sector bodies and through the PE86 degree they can work as IT teachers in primary and secondary education. Teacher appointments and the employment of teachers in private structures often require a Certificate of Pedagogical and Teaching Competence. The Department of Digital Systems has taken all necessary steps to offer its students a Pedagogical and Teaching Competency Certification Programme in the near future.
In conclusion, the knowledge provided by the department enables its graduates to cope and develop in any professional environment related to Digital Systems and Informatics, offering both the necessary theoretical background and the practical experience required.
In addition, graduates of the Department have all the necessary skills to continue their studies at postgraduate and/or doctoral level. The Department of Digital Systems accepts applications from doctoral candidates for the award of a PhD degree in the following thematic areas: i) Software, Information Systems and Theoretical Computer Science and ii) Hardware, Communications and Telecommunications. The objectives of the PhD programme are to promote knowledge and develop research in the field of Digital Systems and related sciences and disciplines, and to produce doctoral research scientists capable of contributing to the advancement of research, technology and higher education in the field of Computer Science and Digital Systems.
